Posted: 30/03/11
The launch of the Moors Valley Country Park permanent MTBO course was marked by a warm sunny March day and 94 competitors.
Ninety four competitors makes this event the 2nd participation record breaker in a week for MBO race events.
The launch was supported by the Forestry Commission and BMBO, the event was the 3rd round of the Southern MBO Series.
With four controls in Moors Valley and the remaining 15 controls in Ringwood Forest to the north, the score format allowed for some interesting route choices.
Ringwood Forest has a great combination of singletracks, fireroads and hills - making control order and route choice key to a successful race.
Winner, and GB team member Ifor Powell, completed the course in 41 minutes, where the optimum length was 17km. The dry weather over the past week had dried up the tracks resulting in some extremely fast times.
Top woman was Melanie Slade who completed the course in 56 minutes, and finished in 10th place overall.
The leading family, and winners of a £50 voucher for Halfords were Noel and Fraser Smith of Wimborne Orienteers.
The fourth round of the Southern MBO series at Wareham Forest on 9th April.
