World MTBO Championship Update
Posted: 20/08/12
The World MTBO Champs in Hungary kicked off today with the Long qualifying race. Temperatures in the high 30s and little shade made for some red hot racing in every respect. The target for the men was to finish in the top 20 in their heat to progress to Friday's A final. Ian Nixon and Andy Douglas rode their races well to make the cut. In the woman's elite Emily Benham finished an impressive 7th in her heat whilst Steph Fountain in her first ride as an elite made the cut to join her in Friday's final. Edwyn Oliver-Evans was riding against riders as much as four years older than himself, but was not all phazed by his first World Champs and went though to the junior men's final. Chris BB, Pat Higgins and Pippa Archer will compete in the B finals. The Masters had a rest day today, as their races do start until Wednesday, but provided vocal support from the sidelines. Tomorrow sees the Elite and Junior Sprint races and the forecast of more red hot temperatures.
