Website upgrades
Posted: 09/07/10
We are continuing with website development. This month the Newsletter will be mailed by Karen Blackburn using facilities entirely built into the website.
What does this mean and why are we bothering?
We are aiming to have all work that BMBO does working through the website, without the need for specialist software or skills. The aim is a system that any member can operate if they take on a job on behalf of BMBO.
This gives consistent format and quality, the ability to share work loads and continuity when members leave a position. When committee members go on holiday, their day to day work can be picked up online by somebody else.
Its about making the lives of those who do work for BMBO a lot easier as well as providing a better service to members and organisers.
So how does the new Newsletter system work.
1, select the Newsletter issue you want to create, this month would be July2010 ( drop down menu for this)
2, Select the pdf Newsletter to upload from your local drive.
3. Add the summary text that tells members what is in this issue of the newsletter.
4, Save the newsletter. This creates and uploads this issue of the newsletter.
5. hit "Send Test" this emails the newsletter to the proof reader list. ie people on our list who will check it.
6. After the test newsletter has been proof read.
7. Go to the issue and hit "Send", confirm you actually want to send it ( just in case this was a miss click)
8. The newsletter goes to ALL members in our database.
9. Current Members get a different Welcome Message.
10. Lapsed members get a message that confirms they have lapsed for the current year.
11. The system puts the newsletter automatically into the Newsletter archive on the website.
Items 9, 10 and 11 are automatic and written from a preferences file.
If you think that sounds complicated, try doing it manually each month!
