Hambleton Inn Race Report//
//Wednesday 22nd July 2010//

//A wet Tuesday turned into a sunny Wednesday and tempted 22 riders out for an evening ride. However, once they had been tempted and well into their ride the weather turned and most riders came back wet but thankfully very happy with the map, the route choices and the scenery – or maybe they were just happy to be back.//
////
//Jill F and Conrad E got off to a bad start; Conrad forgetting his cycling shoes and shorts! He managed to squeeze into a loaned pair of shoes but had to keep his board shorts on to preserve his modesty. Their luck turned from bad to worse as on the climb up Sutton Bank to the finish they broke one of the chains on their tandem and had to push the last leg home, but still only 14 minutes late. The rain had obliterated their score sheet but as the only entrants in X21 they were assured of a win. They then generously declined the class prize money on offer, and even bought me a drink. Thanks, and well done!//
////
//As expected, Andy Conn was best on the day, or night, but not by an awful lot. Dave Day wasn’t too far behind and other scores were quite respectable. There was a very close spread in most classes.//
////
//In the ladies, Karen Blackburn beat the youngsters – and a lot of the men – but special mention to first timer Liz Bassindale who knew a lot of the answers through her work but rode round for an extra 15 minutes to take the edge off her score.//
////
//Another two first timers, Chris and young Sophie Hodgson did well, shadowed by their father. Hopefully they will try more events in the future.//
////
//The landlord of the Hambleton Inn was apprehensive about so many cyclists coming back hungry as he hadn’t arranged extra staff and the chef was of duty at 8.30. However, he coped well with the actual numbers and everyone seemed pleased with the evening’s events.//
