NEMBOS Update – May //

//Teesdale MBO Score //

//I thoroughly enjoyed planning this event as it was a good excuse to get to know another beautiful area of Northern England that I rarely visit. I hardly saw anyone on 6 planning rides and the views were always stunning. Some of the tracks were difficult to ride and navigate along which is why I taped 2 of them but should probably have taped the Pennine Way on Cotherstone Moor as well. I did try to find a lot more but many of them don't exist on the ground especially around Booze Wood.. //
////
//Thanks to all 41 riders who took part. Obviously we were hoping for more but I don't know the answer. If you didn't ride and usually do please let me know why because it is a bit disheartening and the event has made a loss. We definitely need more publicity so please let me know if you would like to volunteer to get our events known on more web sites. //
////
//Thanks to all the helpers as usual, Jens for the map and a special thanks to the control collectors as well as Andy, Graham and Phill who helped me put them out on Friday.//
////
//Thanks to Northumbrian Water for the use of their facilities and permission to use some private tracks. They didn't make a charge so we have donated £1 per rider to the Teesdale & Weardale Mountain Rescue Team. Thanks also to Wemmergill, Bowes Moor and Wemmergill Estates for the use of their private tracks - which were far better than the nearby bridleways. Other estates can be very protective at this time of year due to nesting birds but they were happy for us to ride across their estates as long as we stuck to the bridleways and permissive routes - and I have had no complaints so far although I know that some of you did get lost at times!! //
////
//With so few riders it would be pointless to mention each category winner but the most impressive ride came again from Edwin Oliver Thomas who won overall despite being only 15. It will be interesting to see how Andy and Andrew cope with the competition when they return - hopefully in a fortnight //
////
//The next NYMBO event also takes us out onto the moors with a 5 hour event from Fadmoor village hall on June 4th planned by Ralph & Chris Defty. The next NEMBOS event has been planned by Conrad Ellison and Jill Furphy when you will have the chance to ride for 3 hours on the moors between Guisborough and Eskdale. However, if you fancy more gentle riding the Summer series continues with a 2 hour event planned by Geoff Moorhouse and Steve Foster in the Washburn valley on Tuesday 14th June.//
