Event Report
Planners comments//
//This was the first time planning an event for both of us, but found it thoroughly enjoyable. We found the control planning quite difficult because of the lack of paths in the forest, which meant the course would have to be mainly forest tracks making navigation straightforward. Luckily the numerous long climbs made up for this! Some mistakes were made, the biggest of which was deciding to put the controls out the day before by ourselves, eventually finishing in near darkness. When we saw the final map we were worried some of the faster riders would collect all controls well under the 3 hours, but having seen the state the rain had made of the tracks we knew this wouldn’t happen. Will we do it again? Definitely!//
//A big thank you goes to the Forestry Commission, and also to Steve for his help and guidance. Many thanks to Jens for his help with the map and the helpers at registration. Thanks also to John Rawden for helping collect the controls in. One last note, those of you who got wet crossing the stream at control 23 may be happy to know that one of the planners fell in said stream while collecting control!! Neil & Barry//

//53 riders enjoyed Neil and Barry's course in Hamsterley Forest and we didn't get wet - just muddy. Most riders chose a clockwise route around the forest and took a while to reach the highest part of the course then it was a fast descent back to the finish trying not to miss out too many controls. I rode 24k in the first 2 hours then 18k in the last hour and thoroughly enjoyed my route. Just not quite fit enough to get close to Chris BB who won overall but good enough to outscore John and Ray although, to be fair, I was non-competitive as I had seen the map beforehand. The tea room was very welcome before and after the event and a few riders warmed up on the excellent skills course beforehand.//
//Hopefully most riders will enter the final NEMBOS event that Steve Watson is planning in Wark Forest on Sunday 4th September.//
//Prizes will be awarded to the leading riders immediately after the event.//
//There is a busy bank holiday weekend before then with events at Malham and Harwood Dale so hope to see you at one or all of them.//
