NYMBO Update – May
Boltby & Silton Forest MBO
I don’t know if it was the weather, the area, the 3 hour format or all 3 but 140 riders made this our most popular event for quite a few years. The tracks were as dry as I can ever remember and Tim Clarke had planned an excellent course which encouraged riders into the forests and linking bridleways. As the area took in the western edge of the North York Moors the big decision was where and when to go up and down the slope. It was slightly disappointing that Andy Conn, Will Simmons and Andrew Windrum were able to clear up but it meant better scores for everyone else so only a tongue in cheek apology!! I know we were taking part in a competition but I hope you all had time to admire the scenery especially along the Hambleton Way. We live in a beautiful country and sometimes take it for granted but at least these events take us to the best bits!!
Thanks to Ian Woodhead at Stay Farm for an excellent event centre full of country aromas!! Jens had drawn another very clear map and the helpers made everything run smoothly. Special thanks to Roger Shicluna for putting out the controls in Silton Forest on Friday evening and collecting them in afterwards. I started later than usual as I was needed at the start so didn’t see many riders on the course and finished when most riders had left. I picked a good route but I had seen the course in advance and suggested a few changes. I have also surveyed both forests in the past for orienteering. It was nice to beat Dave Evans but I have had to declare myself non-competitive!!
Will managed to clear up 39 seconds faster than Andrew Windrum but they both had to concede first place to veteran Andy Conn who was another 49 seconds quicker. Conrad Ellison had his best ride of the season but had to be content with 3rd place. John Rawden just lost out to Dave Evans by 1 point in M50 and Sheila Pearce was the highest scoring female rider again. Geoff Moorhouse took advantage of John Dixon’s injury to win M60 – but John is on the road to recovery and is hoping to be competing again at Malham. Steve & Andrea Foster took the honours in the Mixed categories and the Martins outscored all to other Generation pairs this month.
FC Charges update
John Houlihan has managed to negotiate a better national agreement which will mean that the charges will be reduced nearly to last year’s level. I am very grateful for John’s negotiating skills and to the FC for agreeing to reconsider. The exact figures have to be confirmed but when they are do you want me to reduce the entry fee again as well - or are you happy paying the extra which I can then donate to local causes? Please let me know.
