Event Report
17th June and the long anticipated Organic Trail at Holmfirth was upon us. The weather didn't seem to put people off, Sunday morning started with howling gails but turned beautiful shortly before the mid morning start. Unlike the wet and windy night before when Team Oa were placing the controls out! Our turnout was modest, 22 competitors which I don't think is bad for our first event and we have most of them back for more punishment, sorry I meant excitement next month at Widdop.//

//The Ford Inn and Restaurant at Holmfirth proved an ideal venue as the start of our first event. With cracking food and superb atmosphere, it made some hungry competitors very happy following a post race meal! The weather had left some parts of the course very wet but the sun soon dried those out leaving the area ready for some very fast times and allowing a few of the riders to enjoy the stunning climb to the top of Holm Moss for #15//
////
//Competitors brave enough to miss Father’s day morning were rewarded with a stunning challenge we had for them, it was a little different to the usual BMBO format; at the start we issued each rider with a map of their first 10 locations/checkpoints, at each of these the riders found the locations to a further 2 checkpoints making 30 in total. The format as different and a bit of a risk but the feedback has been positive, it meant a great deal more strategy had to be adopted and some riders used to planning upfront had to rethink theirs perhaps making way for a few novices out there!//
////
//Old master Killian Lomas showed us all how it should be done by clearing up with just over 4 seconds remaining on the clock leaving him ahead on the male solos. Maggie McPhillips in the lead for the woman’s solo, Rachael and Andrew Hogley leading the mixed teams, closely followed by Duncan Mellor and Andy Plummer leading the male teams.//
////
//A lot can change for these, this is only the first in a series of 5 events, stage two sees us all heading onto the hills around Widdop just outside Hebden Bridge on the 15th July. The event centre this time round is the Packhorse Inn (some of the best cakes we have ever found)…don’t forget your sun cream!
