Event Report
Wensleydale Comments
I thoroughly enjoyed planning this event as it gave me plenty of opportunities to ride regularly in this beautiful countryside on my doorstep. I obviously couldn't compete on Saturday but had 2 great rides on Friday and Saturday evenings putting out and collecting some of the controls. At least, I was enjoying myself until my chain broke 2 miles from the car on Saturday when all I wanted was a beer.Good job my grandson has taught me how to scoot!!
Thanks yet again to Jens for another excellent map and all the helpers who made everything run smoothly especially the control collectors - Andy Massey, Wayne Nicholson, Steve Langron, Will and Sammy Wilson.
2 apologies. I should have described #7 better as the stream was under the track so not very obvious and the control was on top of the wall so please let me know if you couldn't find the control and I will credit your score with 10 points. The control boxes at #6 and #16 were put out the wrong way round so you may have scored 10 points more or less if you only visited one of them. Dave has altered the scores for these riders but the only leading place that is affected is in M50 where Mike Nayler moves up to 3rd place.
Steph Fountain rode with Jeffrey Barber so won the X40 Category instead of W21

There was an encouraging variety of routes taken by the leaders. Those who wanted to score well had to ride on both sides of the valley but the best scenery and tracks were around Semerwater and behind Addlebrough.
The event made a slight profit so we have donated £50 to the Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team and £50 to the Friarage Breast Cancer Unit as Matt Neale - the local National Park Ranger - recently ran the 190 mile Coast to Coast to raise much needed funds and did it in 61 hours!!
After 5 events some familiar faces are strengthening their grip on the top of the leader board. Will Simmons took advantage of Andrew Windrum's absence at the World Championships to lead M21 as did Andy Massey in M40 due to Andy Conn riding in Portugal. Jenny Sutton and Sheila Pearce moved futher ahead in W21 and W40 respectively. Mike Naylor gained slightly on John Rawden in M50. The two Karen's - Clarke and Blackburn lead W50 and W60 and Geoff Moorhouse scored well to lead M60. Sammy Wilson may have competition if Yasha Chechik decides to cycle regularly instead of run and Tim & Edwin Evans overtook Richard & James Martin.
Splits are on the NYMBO website.
