Event Report
The morning of the event brought snow, sleet, hale and 2 degrees as planners Andy and Sarah Hind plonked controls in various parts of the Rawnsley Hills. Rawnsley is the home of Cannock Chase Monkey Trail, one of the most ridden trail centre marked routes in the country. The forest however has lots of other great riding for those brave enough to venture further.
The weather of course brought mud but the sun soon came out and further rain held off until after the last finisher. The courses were forced to be re-planned to some extent a week before as some new forest workings provided new out of bounds areas. The courses were then a little short for a long race. Answer ? Increase the climb!
34 competitors braved missing Mother's day lunches and all seemed to enjoy the challenge the planners set for them, many struggling with the physicality of the course though.
2011 World Masters Bronze medallist Killian Lomas showed his form is good again this year with a clear win on the A course and superstar in the making Edwyn Oliver-Evans won the B course in style 10 mins clear although he is just 16. Angela Brand Barker was the first Woman home on the B with Emily Benham riding the A course. The established British Team riders are now worriedly looking over their shoulders at Edwyn which is great for the development of the sport!
