NYMBO Update – September
Dalby Weekend
Thanks to Andy Parsons for planning an excellent event in Dalby Forest. It is such a great area for mountain biking I was surprised that we had less than 100 riders but we still managed to break even!! Andy had gauged the distance perfectly as Andy Conn (M40) just managed to visit all 30 controls in 5 minutes over the 3 hours so everyone else managed to visit more controls than usual. After the first 30 point control less than a mile from the start at High Rigg Farm the big decision was to go back through the start or down and right or down and left. I was happy with my choice as I went down past GoApe then cleared the high point controls on the spurs before heading around Bickley. #14 caused a slight hiccup as the track junction wasn't quite as shown on the map - it will be changed for next year. Then it was superb riding with brilliant views across Langdale and over the moors as I cleared the east end including Jerry Noddle and a long ride along Crosscliff Brow to #29 and 23 before a fast descent and tough climb out of Staindale and a hard 15 minutes back to the finish. Late again but still a good score and the tracks had been superb - including a short section of downhill hairpins on the Red route!! Dave Evans picked an even better route to win M50 and finish third overall. Daniel Mathers won his first M21 category with Dennis Jacques and Geoff Moorhouse tying in M60.
Sheila Pearce (W40) was the highest scoring individual woman closely followed by Jill Furphy then the ever reliable Karen Blackburn (W60) with Karen Clark (W50) just pipping Jenny Sutton (W21) - but the toughest competition was in W40 with all 6 riders scoring over 300 points. The Foster's again outscored the Defty's in X50. Sam Wilson won the Youth category this month and it was great to see 7 pairs competing in the Generation class.
Thanks yet again to Jens for another excellent map and all the helpers who made everything run smoothly especially the control collectors - Dave Evans, Andy Parsons, John Dixon, Chris & Ralph Defty and Will & Sammy Wilson.
John Dixon has added the results to the league so with only 1 event to go some classes are decided but others are very close
M21 top three places look settled with a battle for 4/5
W21 Jenny is in top place but 2nd is up for grabs by any of three riders.
M40 Andy Conn, say no more but tight for 2/3 and 5th could go two ways.
W40 top 3 are fixed
M50 Top 4 are close and 5th could go 3 ways
W50 Karen Clark has this in the bag but 2nd depends on who turns up.
M60 Karen Blackburn
X40 Top two are fixed
X50 1/2 and 3/4 are undecided
Y Sam is the man
Generation Depends if Tim & Edwyn Oliver-Evans turn up or not
