Event Report
After a night of heavy rain it seemed like the gods were looking after us, for as the first competitors started arriving the rain clouds began to blow away leaving us with a warm dry day.
Todays competition area took us just East of yesterdays competiton area to the forest of Wareham. The most observant riders would have noticed that the three most Eastern controls from day1 became the most Westerly three controls of day2!!!
With permissions granted to ride freely outside of the constraints of Public Bridleways through a majority of the forest we were able to take advantage of the superb network of paths and tracks within this lovely forest.
With an area this flat, I was a little concerned that the course may have been slightly short, hence the inclusion of yesterdays Black Hill and the very Eastern section of Morton Plantation. This added a bit of variety with the hill climb up onto Black Hill then a few road sections before diving offroad into the forest for the remainder of the course.
While the sandy soil absorbed alot of the water there were still some suprisingly deep puddles which caught out a few riders!!!
As the riders started returning it became aware that the course was just about right, with Jon Brooke being the only rider to clear the board, and in doing so went over time by 5 minutes. This terrific preformance added to his strong result yesterday meant that he pipped Ifor Powell to 1st place over the 2 days by a mere 18 points from a possible 1200!!! Only 70 points then separated 3rd-6th place leaving some riders rueing little mistakes they had made over the weekend.
With all the riders back and the trophies distributed all that was left for us to do was the task of collecting in all the controls and pack them away til next season.
Thanks to everyone who has supported us in our first season, I hope you all enjoyed the events as much as we have enjoyed putting them on. If any of you have any comments about things that you have particularly liked or things that you think we could do differently or change, please feel free to drop us a message on our facebook page:
