Event Report
Black Mountain MBO Series 1 – 23 March 2014
Well done to all those who took part the first Mountain Bike Orienteering event in the Black Mountains MBO Score League, it certainly was 4 seasons in one day. It was brilliant to see some returning faces and hope the driving sleet on tops hasn’t put you off.
We had a reasonably good turn out of 35 paid entries and then a few of groups with youngsters who went out on a trial run at no cost.
The overall winner was Ifor Powell with a very impressive 458 points achieved by clearing 23 of the 25 Controls. Gary Davies 420 and Clare Dallimore 390 were second and third and both won their classes, the remaining scores are on the main results sheet and those marked (1st) are the class winners. Delighted to see two Youth Under 18 take part and hope this encourages more for the next one, well done Iauan and Brynley.
As with all MBO Score events route choice is down to the individual and the course was set out to offer competitors the best of the central Black Mountains range. A good clutch of points were available on both the Gader and Ffwddog Ridges, as with the last event those that reached the top ranking had to cover both and the great debate about which direction is more economical will rumble on and on. That said anti-clockwise did mean riding the wonderful single track from Crug Mawr to Llanbedr!. Again it is great to see a good proportion of the field achieve over half the available points and that all the Controls were visited by at least 6 teams.
The event map will be posted on the main BMBO Facebook page and a break down of the stats can be seen below the scores.
As normal with the events we have organised in the past, we lay on free refreshments at the end of the event and all we ask for a small donation for out chosen charity. Following Sunday’s event we a delighted to say we raised just over £80 for Sport Relief Thank you.
I would also like to thank the team of helpers for their invaluable support getting the event off the ground and the grand refreshments afterwards.
Thank you all and hope to see you at the next one at Hay Bike Festival 27 April, more details of this and the other fantastic events taking place over the week end can be found at www.haycycling.org/
