Event Report
Thanks to everyone who took part in the Kingswood MBO today. The weather was kind, especially after the monsoon conditions of the previous 24 hours – 41mm of rain fell near Hereford I was told. But the tracks were still quite fast and there were some very good scores.
Ian Cartwright topped out with 470 points out of a possible 540, visiting 20 controls and won the M50 class. Ifor Powell was 2nd overall with 448 points winning the M40 class and Richard and Will Kromhout were 3rd with 360. Anne Draper topped the ladies with 237; Graham Phillips and Mary Green on their tandem scored 280, Dave Tipper won the M6 class with 260 and Jane Robinson and Mark Sharp won the X21 class. Well done Bob and young Tommy Cant with 150 points in the Generation class.
The terrain included some sharp climbs, rocky descents and some flat road sections linking the off-road areas. Thankfully the heavy rain had not created too much mud in the wooded sections, but the plethora of tracks in Westridge Woods caused some navigational challenges. CP15 proved to be difficult to locate, but was found by the majority that visited the woods, local knowledge and travelling from the north being advantageous.
Thanks to everyone who helped to make the event a success – Paula, Mum on teas, Tim and Alan on ‘point duty’, Bob, Will and Rich for getting the CPs in afterward, and everyone for competing and having a go! Hopefully using the SI electronic timing system was appreciated – it certainly speeds up the results and makes for more interesting comparisons of routes and times – but maybe only for the geeks like me!
See you next time.
