Event Report
After a short nights sleep, it was back up to the North coast of Somerset again. With the sun just peeping over the horizon, we finally got the final 3 CP's that we didn't have time to place the previous day out. Then it was onto the Village hall where we were greeted by a few early birds. Right, now just to unload the car and set up HQ. Oh hang on the hall is still locked, grrrr!!! No worries we have the 'in case of any problems, give my a ring on...' note. oh what a surprise, no mobile reception, and no local phone box, grrr. Luckily an inquisitive neighbour peeking over the fence informed us of where the warden lived, but surprise, surprise he had gone out, forgetting about us, grrrr!!! Faye finally obtained a set of keys from the post office and we were soon in the hall and back on schedule.//
//A few of the riders moaned at the sight of the competition area map when they realised that they would more than likely have to climb the steep track outside the hall again. They didn't seem anymore relieved when I informed them that this was to be one of the nicer climbs today!!!!//
//By about 1030, the last of the riders had departed into the oncoming drizzle, meaning it was time for Rich & I to get out and collect in the remainder of the CP's from the previous day that we didn't manage to get the previous day. Note to Rich : when climbing up to collect in one of the highest placed CPs, make sure you have the correct spanner BEFORE you leave, Doh!!!! //
//With a majority of the previous day's CPs collected in, we pulled into the hall car park just as the first of the riders returned.//
//Today's area differed from the previous day in that it was more forest based, with it's large network of fast firetracks, allowing riders to zoom around between CPs.//
//As all the riders returned it became evident that it was going to be a very close run thing. With Nick Dallimore, the first of the front two to return, with a score of 410 from a possible 600, it meant that Ifor Powell would need a score of 420 or more to win the the weekend. The atmosphere was tense as Ifor pulled in and downloaded. His score flashed up on the screen, Score: 430pts......Penalties: 12pts . Ifor won the battle, but Nick won the war by 2 points. Had Ifor been 3 seconds quicker it would have gone to a tie break!!!!//
//Third place was equally close, with only 29pts separating 3rd - 6th, with Phil Upton just hanging onto his overnight 3rd place. //
//Class wins went to: Adam Meehan M21, Ifor Powell M40, Nick Dallimore M50, Mike Wimpenny M60, Fiona Boyd W21, Chris Porter / Matt Cant Pairs, and Andy & Alison Reynolds, Mixed Pairs.//
//With all the trophies presented, it was time to say farewell and start to tidy up and collect in the CP's. A big thank you to Chris Porter and Matt Cant, who helped by collecting in a majority of the CPs from Croydon Hill, and to Ron Barrett's wife for helping clean the hall, and finally, thanks to all you guys and girls who made the event a success!!!//
//As darkness fell I rode the final downhill leg in the pitch black to pick up the final control at the south of the map. It was then the windy trip home to Exeter, stopping off in Tiverton to pick up a few well deserved bottles of wine, which we thoroughly enjoyed when we arrived home!!!!//
//Once again, Thanks to you all for turning up. We hope you enjoyed the weekend more than we did putting it on!!! and hope to see you all again soon.....//
