Event Report
Black Mountain MBO Series 4 – 19 July
Well done to all those who took part the latest Mountain Bike Orienteering event in the 2015 Black Mountains MBO Score League.
The weather confounded us initially with heavy rain making clothing selection difficult but on the on the dot of 9.30 the sky cleared and the sun shone brightly all day. With a good number of points available on both the Gader and Ffwddog Ridges those that reached the top ranking had to cover both and the great debate about which direction is more economical still a firm topic of conversation during post event refreshments. That said anti-clockwise did mean riding the wonderful single track from Crug Mawr to Llanbedr and I suspect it was quite hairy coming down the grassy slope for those that opted to ride on Cross/Hybred bikes!!
We had a good turn out and it was great to see a few new faces and judging by the chatter afterwards everyone enjoyed it. The overall winner was Gary Davies (M21) a very impressive 455 points achieved by clearing 23 of the 25 Controls. Mark Morgan (M40) was just behind on 440 and newby Richard Haynes (M40) was third with 415. Top female was Iwona Szmyd (W21) with 230 and well done to Ieuan Best (Y18) who amassed a very impressive 248. The remaining scores are on the main results sheet.
The league is shaping up nicely and with 2 events to go it is pretty close, M40 category Andy Hilder remains in top spot with 331 points closely followed by M21 Michael Holloway with 314 and Gary Davies 281 in third. Mike Manning leads the M50s with 220. A lot can change so check out the other category leaders on the full league at www.blackmountainsguiding.co.uk (MTB Orienteering).
As normal with the events we have organised in the past, we lay on free refreshments at the end of the event and all we ask for a small donation for out chosen charity. Following Sunday’s event we a delighted to say we raised just over £80 for The Welsh Air Ambulance Thank you.
I would also like to thank the team of helpers for their invaluable support getting the event off the ground and the grand refreshments afterwards.
Thank you all and hope to see you at the next one in the beautiful Wye Valley on 6 September
