Event Report
Event Report – Talybont 2016
Soaked on Saturday setting up and soaked on Sunday collecting in, but it appears you lot got away with it! That said it was pretty challenging out there and I hope those that took a tumble on the slippery surface are healing now the sun has come back out.
It was another great feel as riders who took to the trails on the 4 Event of the season and we were very pleased to let a few newbies have a free go. Steve and Evelyn said they’d like to pop out and collect a couple of CPs for fun….. 3 hours, 7 CPs and 160pts later they came back, guess you enjoyed it then. Everyone else can be justly proud of a great set of results, it was definitely a much harder course than Govilon so don’t be too concerned if you average dipped a little, this coupled with the trail conditions already mentioned made it much tougher event.
The ‘Young Guns’ (M21) stole the show this time with a clean sweep, Matt Macmillan notched his first win of the season with a fantastic 462 points of the 500 on offer, just missing CP05 in the centre of the area. 2nd was Gary Davies 442 points and recording another 3rd place was Michael Holloway on 440 points.
Well done to the class winners who were:
G Tony Finnis & Joe Finnis 210
Y18 Teifion Best 320
W21/40 Clare Dallimore 425 and first female
W50 Lisa Welbourne 250
W60 Caroline Callimore 230
M40 Richard Haynes 430
M50 John Morgan 392
M60/70 Nick Dallimore 415
Mixed Debbie Lamb & Rhys Manning 257
Thank you for those who recorded their rides on head cams on Sunday, especially Gary and Richard they illustrate what our sport is all about perfectly. If you haven’t seen the footage yet please visit the Black Mountains MBO Facebook page, view and share.
The 2016 Black Mountains League

2nd Michael Holloway 372pts
3rd Matt Macmillan 371pts
Forthcoming Events
Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th July - BMBO National Championships from Exmoor and the Quantock Hills, more details on the main BMBO website. A group of us are going down on Friday night and staying at Moorhouse Campsite in Holford, more details are on the event page.
Our next event will be Sunday 4 September - The event HQ is based in the village of Brechfa, located on the B4310 which is north of the main A40 between Carmarthen and Llandeilo. The event will straddle a section of the beautiful River Cothi and its many tributaries which pass through rolling countryside, mountains, farmland and forestry. The Brechfa area is famous for its purpose built MTB trails located to the north and east of the village. A part of the MTB trail area will be contained in the event but the planner will also introduce entrants to a wider area which are only used by the hardy locals.
Think 4 hours is too long for you, then just take on half of the area and come back early. There is no penalty for finishing early and we are always happy to offer advice on a shorter route for novices, families and those not wishing to venture too far away from the event HQ.
One for your 2017 diary - 29th – 30th Apr the Original Mountain Marathon Bike and Lite to be held in Cwmdu just north of our Tretower event HQ, more details to follow.
Thank you
Thank you all for the Donation of £80.50 which will go towards trail repairs in the area, those that ventured up onto the Allt on will have seen the fruits of the donations with the excellent clearance work that has been done up there.
Last but not least I would also like to give a big thank you to John and Charlie for helping out with map issue, Amanda and Verda for the catering, Ian and John who helped collect in the controls and everyone for taking part.
Thank you and see you all again soon.
