Event Report
Mabie Forest, one of the Forestry Commission’s 7stanes areas, was the setting for the British Long Distance Champs. The terrain consisted of plenty of purpose-built trails along with cross country single track and the usual forest roads and footpaths, all complemented by some tough hills. Phil’s courses kept everyone on their pedals with difficult route choice decisions, complicated by compulsory one-way systems and being allowed to cut through the forest! In the Men’s, 75 mins was the time to beat for much of the day until late starter Ben Plowman came back with a blistering time of 69.21, a fantastic winning margin. Emily Benham once again took the Women’s title although the Vet Men and GB Foot-O team member Helen Bridle weren’t far behind!
This race, along with Drumlanrig’s Middle Distance, will be used by the selectors in deciding the GB Team to go to the World Champs this July in Portugal.
Photo shows Emily Benham, Killian Lomas and Ben Plowman who were the winners over the double weekender.
