Event Report
Black Mountain MBO – Winter Wanderland 2 – St Briavels Common 14th February 2016
A good turnout in welcome sunshine - well done to all the competitors, regulars and new, who took part in the second Black Mountains MBO Event of 2016 around St Briavels Common on Sunday. For this event the terrain was more hilly than the last event resulting in only one person – Ifor Powell – managing to clear the course. Impressive riding Ifor. Perhaps it was a great lesson in trying to master the MBO art of where at all possible climbing on the road and descend off!
Although good weather on the day the conditions under-tyre were variable, especially down by the river which would have slowed competitors down. The maze of minor roads, byways and restricted byways made naviagtion tricky at times but people quickly got the hang of it all.
It was great see a full breath of ages & experience take part, plus it was fantastic to see so many new faces; we hope you enjoyed you first ride out with us and be back for more. In addition two more potential competitors came into the hall to find out more. Very encouraging.

The only control which had its tape removed was CP6 which shouldn't have caused delay as the fingerpost was very clear. Apologies to the competitors who were shouted at down by the Polish Church. If you followed the taped route you were on a legal Public right of way.
We have decided to run the Winter Wanderland as a mini Series, best 2 of 3 to count and the Award Ceremony will be after the first BM MBO 2016 - 3 ½ hour Series Event in Pandy 10 Apr 16. The standings after 2 events are displayed on the Black Mountains MBO Facebook page and club webpage www.blackmountainsguiding.co.uk (MTB Orienteering).
Event 3 – Wentwood will take place on Sunday 27 March and is filling up fast.
Last but not least I would also like to thank Siôn, for support and advice, Ian for the kit and Gary who started you all off. Many thanks also to Amanda and her expert assistant, for producing fab food which was wolfed down hungrily. I also noticed Caroline at the sink helping out too, thank you. People gave generously and we raised £70 for SARA, Severn Area Rescue.
Thank you all and see you at the next one
