Event Report
The return of the West Coast Series got off to a cold and beautiful sunny start with amazing views across the Solway Firth and out towards the Ennerdale fells from the event centre at The High Farm at Moresby to greet the riders as they arrived to do battle with the Cumbrian hills . A final total of 31 riders meant my efforts hadn’t been in vain and from the comments at the end , which were much appreciated , it had been an enjoyable day . I was surprised how many people did not really know the area , and pleased how many commented on the views and scenery specially round Ennerdale Lake which on the day was exceptional , please note here though that we only have lakes because of all the water we get and some days you can’t see very much because of the rain so the weather was a real bonus . I was glad to be the organiser and relieved that everything went well as I’ve only run one other event before which was 6 years ago , and at this point I must thank Tony and Angela Brand-Barker for all their assistance including collecting 14 controls for me !!!! , Peter Strong for his support and advice , Steve Watson , my riding partner for his help with the map and controls , oh yes and my wife Susan for doing the “catering” and countless other stuff that I don’t even understand . Also a special mention to Tom and Linda , my daughters in-laws for the use of the farm and facilities , and last but not least everyone who turned up and made it a successful event . Planning a 3 hour course is a bit tricky but when the fastest rider just fails to clean up and everyone else has reasonable or good scores I think it’s about right . Now to the scores , Graham Tibbot once more showed his talent by winning with a very impressive score of 570 just beating Robert Glaister who also scored 570 but incurred penalties of 9 points leaving him on 561 , and Ben Martin third overall with 543 . Peter Strong came in close at fourth overall on 500 , and Angela Brand-Barker the highest scoring lady with 476 . All the rest of the scores are now available on the BMBO page , sorry if the splits aren’t available yet or ever – some glitch with the control boxes –not my fault –honest ! For strangers to the area , there is a lot more great riding all over Cumbria so look out for the rest of the West Coast Series and get those entries in nice and soon . Finally ,congratulations to everyone who either won the event , their category , didn’t win anything , or just had a really good time . Next event is at Torver 17/12/2017 . //
