I went to the training camp for next years world champs after the World cup in Italy. Some pictures avalible including the map. Let me know if anyone wants high res versions. http://picasaweb.google.com/iforpowell/2011MTBOWorldsTrainingCampItaly?feat=directlink The terain was different to the world cup not the same vinyard stuff. Basicaly undulating woodland interspersed with mainly grassy agricultural land. Most of the interesting stuff was on top of the hills and gentaly undulating. The one Area was directly north of the middle area and I expect the middle terain to be the same but maybe with some vinyard stuff lower down the southern slopes of the hill. I suspect the sprint area may be more of the vinyard stuff / urban into a town. Some of the tracks were quite rocky and with damp conditions the polished limestone bedrock was somtimes very slipery. I did a small test on the second day over about a 3km 100m climb loop on the second day riding it steady to check the route then doing it as a time trial on my hardtail Scale first then later on my full suss Blur. I was 13 minutes on the Scale and 12 on the Blur (5 lb heavier). I realy should of re-ridden with the Scale as some of the speed up will of been better farmiliarity with the loop. For me full suss looks to be the choice and I used the blur on the third day for the longer course where I went out at close to race pace. I was far happier on the rocky decents and I probobly had better grip climbing as well. This is a personal thing and my not so hat bike handelling undoubtedly favours the blur although for the sorld cup and most UK races I use the scale. My training log entries for the rides with my immediat thoughts are here. |
