I've managed to work out how this forum works..... So i thought i might mention the Old Folks World Champs, this year in Sweden. As we proved last year, we have members very capable of winning IOF gold medals. It's not about winning, taking part that counts blah blah...etc. Details here; http://www6.idrottonline.se/templates/Workroom.aspx?id=557714 All that went to Poland last year for the first Masters WOC had a great time, it would be good to have a strong team again travelling. |

I have managed to get time off from school for this event so I will definitely be going. Has anyone looked at flights or accommodation yet? Unlike last year it looks like we have to sort accommodation ourselves as there is nothing official laid on. I presume that Stockholm is the closest airport. Anyone know different? |
Stuart Norman Jan 18th 2011, 9:30pm |
Stockholm seems to be the closest airport (google says 3.5 hours by road to the event area) and I managed to get a good deal with SAS on flights in their sale, but I think that closed on 10th January. Accommodation is in demand because it seems Swedes make a big deal about midsummmer (peak season) and the event is in a very popular tourist area. There are some options on the links on the event website - Sweden is expensive! |

I shall speak with my contacts who live in Mora, Rattvik and Falun. I am sure they will be more than helpful :-) |

I was planning on going. Not done anything about it though apart from putting the event into attackpoint so it's on my events list. |

Flights with BA from Heathrow to Arlanda are currently about £110 return. Bikes travel free. I am just about to book my flight on 15/6 depart 1130 and arrive Arlanda at 1500. |

sorry ... flight out on 16.6! |

Me ... again. One of these days I will master the art of sending one message with all the information in it! 18/6 middle distance Bulletin one officially states that the 17th June is for the arrival of teams. However Rattvik/Mora is a 3 hour drive from Arlanda, so if we flew out on the Friday we wouldn't arrive until later and with bike building and team management stuff, it would be a stress filled day. From experience I know it is always best to fly one day before, hence my decision to arrive on 16th June. This allows time on Friday for adequate rest, a little training and calming the nerves. Would anyone else like to join me on Thursday? |

Do not think that the Headmaster will let me have an extra day for 'relaxing'! Dare not push my luck too much. I'm pretty sure that it will have to be Friday. Happy to share a car if any one else going Friday. Let me know before I book flights. |

Stopping for the celebrations? I might join Em for that also. Em is a lucky young lady. How about a seperate thread, not for mumbling on about 'what ifs and maybes', for defo bookings? |
Alan Hartley Jan 23rd 2011, 7:45pm |
Sorry Andy, but more ifs and maybes. Definitely want to go to this one, but not quite being of the seniority required I am up for the World Cup race, so depenendant on less than 6 men (better than me) wanting to go. Has there been a date set yet for this? Assuming I get to go then probably want to make a trip of it and not rush there/home and take a extra day or two. |

Count me in too, I had a great time last year, and now I have a title to defend!! |

I am planning on getting the flight with BA from LHR arriving into Arlanda at 1105. I ummed and arred about going from City airport, but I would still have to leave at the same time in the morning anyway ... (Let me book first I want my cheap flight now I've told you all about it!) People are more than welcome to join me for post-event midsommer celebrations. Andy, I am very lucky and honoured that you want to join me ;-) |

I'm booked on the 0740 British Airways flight from London Heathrow to Stockholm Arlanda on June 16, arriving at 1105 Swedish Midsummer is 21st June where they have massive bonfires lit on the beaches by the lakes and have big parties. I believe the Austrian team are also staying. Perhaps a nice way to celebrate our medal haul again?! It is a 3 hour drive to Mora from Stockholm. Please bear this in mind when booking flights! @Alan - the event dates are 18th Middle, 19th Long and 20th mixed relay (which I will participate in this year!) |

Sorry I wasn't very clear, those date have been in my diary for some time. Do we have a date by which everybody who wants to do WC has to say by? Particularly with the >40s riding vets not WC then there should be easily space for me, but I'm not booking any flights until I know I'm in! |
