Can someone please explain why there is a rule that 26" wheels only may be used at National MBO events, when the IOF make no such ruling - if fact the IOF rule seems to give maximum latitude over type of bike? Thanks Last edited Mar 1st 2010, 5:42pm by Stuart Norman |

Good question! I have no idea, not that it would affect me anyway... |

IOF rules used to have a 26" limitation on bicycle wheel size. However, the 26" limitation has now been removed and it has now been removed from our rules as well. |

I guess this has come about over 29ers (which are really 700 but we don't want to mix roadie with mtb do we?). Personally, I don't think we should allow cross bikes, or they should be allowed but with a time penalty or restricted to fun class. But to keep it fun, fair and simple I suppose I know who I beat (or didn't) and all the excuses that are available...... |

Good question about whether a cross bike would be an advantage. Probably dependant on terrain. If there was any amount of steep bumpy downhill having front suspension would give you an edge but on smoother terrain and with more tracks a cross bike may be better. As most cross bike will have V brakes rather than disks they will be less manageable on the downhills. Personally I prefer my mountain bike for the confidence that it gives, |
