MBO Score National League Events This Year
BMBO compiles a National MBO Score League and an MBO Score Championship Event each year. The current events and numbers for this year can be found here:
Qualifying Criteria for the National League
The qualifying criteria:
A Score event of 3 hours or more in duration that use electronic timing or phone based App will be included in the National League.
For multi day events the seperate score for each days will count.
In events where there is a choice of duration, event organisers must nominate, before entries open, which duration qualifies for the National League. This must be clearly indicated on the event details and the statistician informed. The default situation is that the longest course will count.
All nominations for events to be included must be registered on the BMBO calendar by 31st March.
Best 10 event scores will count to the league final position.
No more than 6 event scores can count from a single region/organiser/club.
Class winners will need to have ridden in at least 7 events to qualify for prizes. This same rule applies to lower placings that might receive awards in the classes with the largest numbers of qualifying riders.
League Points and how they are Calculated
The average of the top five scores is used to determin the ranking points. All other finishers who have registered their BMBO number on their entry will receive a pro rata percentage of the top 5 average score using the following formula
(Your score/ Top 5 average score)*100%
Note that any E bike scores are not included in the Top5 Average.
All amendments to League points must be notified to the statistician within 3 weeks of the League first being circulated to members.
The organiser, plus one nominated helper, at an event will receive the average of their best three scores as an 'organisers bonus'.
Tie break
In the event of a tie, the following will be used, in order of preference, to determine the winner:
1. Where the competitors have competed against each other in one or more events, then the better mean of such scores only will be used.
2. The greater number of class wins.
3. The next best discarded score(s) will be added.
In addition to the National League there are several Regional Leagues (mini leagues) administered by BMBO clubs in the region. These are listed on the Event Calendar page of this website.
Time Period for the league:
The league will run from 1st November through to the final nominated event in October (this will be confirmed when calendars are populated by league organisers and is normally the last eligible event).
Presentation of the BMBO National league prizes will take place at the last qualifying event of the league or at the AGM.
Inter Club Shield
In addition to the National League there is an annual Inter Club Shield. In 2024 this is a competition between the different regional clubs. New clubs may apply to enter in the future if they offer more than two events on the BMBO Calendar.
The rules are as follows:
The interclub Shield will be supplied and supported by the Midlands Mbo. Any damages or changes to the trophy will be done by Midlands Mbo. The Shield will be held by winning club for the previous year up to the end of the current year.
Rules for interclub trophy.
1- Only groups that are recognised by BMBO as Mountain bike orienteering groups will be eligible. Currently BLACK MOUNTAINS MBO, BRISTOL OK, LAKES MBO, MIDLANDS MBO, NYMBO, SLOW MBO.
2- At each event the first 20 riders will score towards the group total. IE; First place 20 points, second 19 points and so on. This will generate a 210-point total potential per event. If there is a tie at end of year, then the most wins/seconds/thirds etc will determine the win.
3- All riders must be identified/confirmed at sign in for the event attended, counting events only. There will be a spreadsheet given to the organiser of the event to populate.
4- From each event the organiser will send a result spread sheet to ‘Inter Club Co-ordinator’ jeffrmew@aol.com, showing the top 20 riders/clubs scores.
5- Once a group has been chosen by a rider then that rider cannot change during that year. However, the club can be changed the following year. The rider can choose a group on the day of the event or at membership renewal on BMBO Webpage.
6- The Inter group shield will run 1st Nov to 31st October as per the National League year.
7- There will be 2 scoring events per Group that will be chosen by each group main organiser, so there will be 12 events that contribute to the year total. No events can happen on the same day so dates need to be secured early. PLEASE identify the chosen events within the event name ie; December York event (SHIELD EVENT)
8- All rider categories will be counted towards the group total.
9- E-Bikes will be counting toward the group total in each event, but a 25% deduction on the scores for E-Bike will be levied. This is to acknowledge the rider is assisted on an event.
10- The Shield will be presented to the winning team at first available event of the next year. Potentially the Midlands mbo league presentation event will be used.
The understanding of this initiative, and change to last year, is to acknowledge riders further down the finishing order on an event. Riders can bring their group to the forefront of this sporting event and all can take 20 credit for this. The Shield will be fixed with the winning group for that year on a plaque, with rider names that scored during that year.
Jeff Mew and Nuno Cerqueira will be the contacts for this event. A Spreadsheet will be done on the BMBO Website, this is on the RESULTS LEAGUES tab and will show the inter club shield event results throughout the year.
