Event Report
74 riders turned out for this years CATS Crackers.//
//With the headquarters based in Market Harborough town centre and 6 out of 29 control locations were set within the bounds of Market Harborough, so most deciding which way out of town was their first navigational challenge.//
//The mild weather of late meant a lot of the bridleways were still riding firm so off road was still a good choice to make up time and distance.//
//With only 2 slight amendments needed to the map and a 420m old railway tunnel to deal with riders had to be on their A game.//
//M21 rider Will Dixon proved top of the shop amassing 440 point after penalties to win by just 2 points from M50 Mark Rowley. M40 Andy Smith regretting chasing his last checkpoint for an extra 10 points because with almost 13 minutes late in time penalties cost him 30 points to give him third with 435. Local knowledge and a fast turn of speed helped 4th place Andrew Waller from the promoting club with 432 points and National Champion Ifor Powell rounding out the top 5 with 424 points. //
//It was good to see 3 brand new riders giving mountain bike orienteering a go and quite a few youngsters.//
//This event is always for charity and this year, as we were using one of the local scout groups hall, all profits will be donated to them, approx £450.//
//Happy new year everyone and thank you to all my helpers and to you, the riders.//
