Event Report
Congratulations to all those who took to the Blorenge last week end and it was great to see a good show of new riders, we hope you enjoyed it and will be back for more.
Planning an event on the Blorenge in the summer is quite a challenge, although the tops are dry and run really well the lower slopes can be problematic. The bracken really starts to take off by mid-July and this makes spotting potential hazards very tough and often blocks the trail completely. With this in mind we chose to not use ‘Bike Breaker’ or Hill’s Dramroad, but we were able open up more trails on Blaen Pig and the Tips with the kind permission from Celtic Energy who own the site. We also were able to use the whole of the Blorenge, thanks again to an ongoing agreement with the South East Wales Hang Gliding & Paragliding Club.
Well done to Mark Morgan who took top spot with 447pts, followed by Ifor Powell on 433 both M50 and 3rd was Clare Dallimore W21 on 400, all three riders took quite different routes. The other class winners were M60 Nick Dallimore 377, M40 Alex Boakes 285, W50 Nicky Griffin 275, Mixed Pair Amanda & Rhys Williams 261, Y18 Aled Trott (first ride) 260, M21 Huw Higgins-Worrall 260, EBike Christopher Aldous 208, W40 Kate Darlington 190, M70 Mike Wimpenny 177 & W60 Gill Stott 161.
The 2019 League results have also been updated, Ifor Powell remains on top having ridden all 7 events but both Mark Morgan & Mark Rowley are hot on his heels and I suspect it will go right down to the wire this year. The full standings can be found on the BM MBO Club Tab below.
Although unable to ride thank you to Sheila for help on the day with manning the finish, having a person there really makes a massive difference and reduces the possibilities of tired riders missing the box!
Thanks also to Amanda and Verda and for excellent catering and to Chris, Simon & Ifor for control collection. We collected £100.04 on the day which will be going to the South Wales Air Ambulance
