Event Report
Wednesday saw the end of the 2019 Allerdale Bike Challenge series. The last event, based at the Oddfellows Arms at Caldbeck, lived up to expectations as being the best of the series and provided a fitting finale. The route covered a new area for the ABC series and it certainly caught a lot of people out. There were really only two ways in or out of the village, one of which involved a very big hill climb! Do it first or last was the decision. Winner Alan Hartley was one of the few who opted to start up the hill but many of those who left it until the end seriously miscalculated how long it would take and incurred penalty points for being late.Well done also to Kate Charles who left the hill until the end and managed to hold on to the lead despite being a bit late back.//
//Many thanks to James and his team at the Oddfellows for providing us with an excellent venue, good food and drink. //
//An unexpected highlight of the evening was the appearance of a local TV reporter who has produced a really good video that was aired on TV last night. If you missed it you can see it on our Facebook page or you can follow the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCAOZjxqqaY&t=7s .//

//Being the last of the series the prize giving followed. Alan Hartley left us in no doubt as to who was top dog. Despite a heavily bandaged ankle completed a full set of wins tonight to take the overall championship. The ladies race was much closer. The lead changed after most events but in the end Caitlin Pearson managed to hold off the challenge of Fiona Wright and Kate Charles to win the series for the first time. Well done to both and all of the category winners who are listed on the Facebook page.//
//A big thank you to our sponsors Keswick Bikes and Buffera who provided many of the prizes once again this year.//
//see you all again next year!//
