August saw the return of our events with Jane’s course around the North Downs near Effingham. We able to take in many of the fantastic views all around using the standard format course on an A3 1:25,000 map. We had a record turnout and it is great to see everyone back at events. There was plenty of room on the playing fields to spread out.

There was lots of route choice and some steep climbs on the edge of the North Downs. The area has loads of brilliant trails and great views. Congratulations to all the class winners. Ian Cartwright came in first overall with the only course clearance and with 2 minutes to spare. Stephen Dadswell came first in Men’s Seniors and now holds overall lead for the series. Louise Oliver led the Women’s Vets despite suffering a broken chain. Many thanks to Paul Boakes and Charlie Selfe for stopping to help fix it. Rachel Clay led the Women’s Seniors, coming 5th overall and James Yule came first in the Youth class.

The extra procedures created a lot of extra work for the organisers and our thanks go to Jane Robinson and Gordon Parker in particular for setting these up. Everything worked well, there was plenty of room for staying safe and we’re now set for future events. A big thank you to Jane for organising the event and to her regular team in particular Paula Porter for manning reception.
