Event Report
With this being the first Allerdale Bike Challenge event since July 2019, we weren't sure whether a mere handful of bike orienteers would turn up or whether the prospect of an event open to all riders would entice local cyclists to try something a bit different to racing against the clock. On the evening, 71 riders (which was a record for ABC) navigated their way around the lanes South of Brigham. It was lovely to welcome a large number of the entries from generation teams and great to see and hear the junior riders at the finish chastising their parents for not using the 2 hour time limit to best effect!
The weather gods were kind to us and there were comments made about how this event was a first "evening out" of the year. Thankfully the nettles weren't too tall adjacent to checkpoints so the organisers were the only ones to sustain a few tingles!
Well done to you all for coping with the varied road surfaces to be found around this area. Some riders encountered tractors with large silage trailers but no mishaps were reported. One puncture victim was assisted by a local resident who came to their aid with a bowl of warm water, proving that community spirit is very much alive.
Congratulations to Tom Gibb who visited all controls with time to spare, thus gaining bonus points.

We look forward to welcoming you all to another event - Allonby on 2nd June or Keswick on 16th June. We can't promise good weather but we will do our best to make you think about route choices.
