Event Report
Saturday 12th Feb saw 50 keen mountain bikers from all over the north turned out to compete in round 4 of the XCC winter mountain bike orienteering series at Cartmel. Heavy rain on Friday night made all offroad tracks slow going.
The event day started foggy with patches remaining throughout the day. The course area covered Hampsfell to the Leven estuary and provide much route choice and planning. Organiser Mike Hayward was pleased to see a nice blend of old hands and new faces. Maximum score possible was 480, so Andy Conn's from Saltburn by the Sea whose high score on the day of 434 was impressive in the conditions.
Class winners were
Men 21+ Alan Hartley from Shap score 366, Men 50+ Andy Crozier from Lytham, 340, Men 60+ Steve Willis from Richmond 325,
Women 21+ Joanne Wulf from Settle score 200, Women 40+ Jo Cleary 265, Women 50+ Angela Brand Barker from Cockermouth 320, Women 60+ Karen Balckburn from Bishop Aukland 270. Local Youth Riders Michael and Nathaniel Green took the youth class with a score of 165. The riders were treated to hot drinks and snacks as they compared routes. Prizes awarded to class winners.
