NYMBO Update – March //
////
//White Horse MBO Score //
////
//Thanks to Andy Parsons for planning another excellent event - this time on the edge of the moors and the forests around White Horse Bank. Andy had again gauged the distance perfectly as Andrew W and Andy C didn't quite manage to clear all 30 controls so everyone else managed to visit more controls than usual. I was pleasantly surprised by how fast the tracks were despite the recent wet weather and the rain held off until everyone had finished. Unfortunately the control collectors got wet so a special thanks to them for their efforts which meant that I got home at 6.30 with everything collected in.Thanks to all of the other helpers and Jens for another excellent map. //
////
//Thanks also to Yorkshire Gilding Club who made us very welcome and would like us to go back regularly - to ride our bikes or to book a flight. The cafe was a welcome bonus and it's just a pity we couldn't use one of the hangars for registration then we could have spread the queues out more easily. Hopefully you didn't mind the wait because at least at NYMBO events you can enter by email or just turn up on the day for no extra charge!!The online entries seemed to work well and hopefully I can sort out the discounts for your own SI card or BO membership before the next event. However if you enter by email can you please give your BMBO number and whether you are a full or associate member - and if you haven't rejoined for 2011 yet please do!//

//There were some familiar names at the top of each category but obviously a specail mention to Andrew Windrum (M40) who only missed one control and Steph Fountain (W21) who finished 8th overall. I decided to ride down Sutton Bank as I didn't fancy riding back up it at the end and there were lots of early points around the White Horse. Then it was along to Wass and up the bank before deciding which way to go around the forest where the tracks were drier than expected. Andy Conn passed me for the fifith and final time going the same way for a change towards #25. I think he had been doing a few extra loops!! Around Pry Rigg before the long grassy bridleway down to Ashberry Bridge. Big decision time and decided that Old Byland and Hambleton Down were too far so rode past the fishponds and up to #18,. Unfortunately I think I was admiring the view too much on the way down so went up the estate track in Stinging Dale for 5 minutes instead of up to #17. Thought 'I don't believe it' (getting lost at a NYMBO event) before turning round and going the right way so ended up 10 minutes late and rather weary!! However it's still a cracking area and I rode 10k more that I would ride the following day in the Derbyshire Dales. //
//Planners comments//
//The tracks had thawed out and dried up considerably since I checked them in January so I hope everyone enjoyed their rides. It was a shame that the start / finish location gave pretty much everyone an uphill finish. However, finding somewhere to park up to 100 cars is tricky at this time of year when the fields are wet so we were lucky to get such a great location as the gliding club. A bonus for me was their brilliant cafe, which was a welcome warm retreat after getting cold on the start line for an hour. It was great to see so many riders turn out for the event, which makes the effort of planning, checking and hanging the controls worthwhile.//
