NYMBO Update – July
Cropton Forest MBO Score
Planners' Comments We hope you enjoyed you ride through Cropton and Pickering as much as we enjoyed all our planning rides; your comments at the finish seemed to indicate that you did. After 40+ years of racing, mapping and planning in Cropton it was a challenge to pose new challenges especially with the tracks so dry and fast! The different routes taken show we managed to provide some alternatives. Hanging the controls on Friday evening and Saturday morning was very peaceful and provided fantastic views, especially from Hartoft Rigg, along with a wide range of wildlife – rabbits, deer, badger and fox! Collecting controls on Saturday evening also allowed us to enjoy the tranquillity of the forest after the competition is over. Big thanks to all the helpers who make these events possible – car parking, registration, start and collecting controls.
Organiser's Comments I thoroughly enjoyed my ride as, although I was non-competitive, I was trying hard. The Forestry Commission and National Park had asked for a few changes so I studied the original course in order to suggest a few alternatives to Steve & Karen. I thought the course had everything except an obvious route. Technical singletrack across Stony Moor, a beautiful path past Elleron, dry forest tracks and even faster forest roads, a superb bridleway across Hartoft Rigg and an easier than expected route from St James Farm up into the forest - and all in glorious sunshine.
Congratulations to Conrad Ellison who won overall. Great rides from Edwin and Tim to win the Generation class in second position overall. Mike Nayler won M50 again by 1 point from John Rawden while David Day was a comfortable winner in M60. Sheila Pearce had another great ride and was the overall womens' winner while Andrea and Steve Foster won the battle of the mixed teams.
In the League, both Simon's made ground on Rob Harrison in M21. Conrad Ellison, Mike Nayler and David Day all extended their leads in their respective classes - but there are a few riders who have still not scored in 5 events. The women's leaders are Louise Granger, Sheila Pierce and Karen Blackburn. Tim & Edwin have surely got the Generation class in their pockets while Chris & Ralph are still hanging onto first place in the mixed teams.
Muddybums have sponsored the end of season T-shirts and will be at the rest of the events so please support them. Tony is also organising a Hoody Competition with a free Hoody as a prize for the best slogan and design. Please send yours directly to tony@muddybums.org.uk
There were another 2 items of lost property so please let me know if you are missing a Gap sweatshirt or pair of sunglasses and I will bring them to the next event.
Unfortunately we have decided to cancel the Bullamoor event on July 12th but there will be 4 events in August. The next NYMBO event will be the evening event at Hovingham on the 9th and the next NEMBOS event will be at Hamsterley Forest on the 13th.
We still need a publicity officer in order to maintain and hopefully increase our numbers so please volunteer if you appreciate our event and have a bit of time to spare.
