Brilliant sunshine but a brisk wing greet the 28 riders that took part in the CATS MBC promotion based at Wansford just off the A1 near Peterborough. Heading east into the Rockingham forest region and south into Elton Park the map had just about everything you need for a good orienteering event, lots of tracks and trail confusing woodland and nice rolling terrain. With 24 checkpoints dotted around the A4 O/S extract it gave riders plenty of route choice.
Most of the riders ended up with a few penalty points but M50 Andy Smith rode the map anticlockwise to amass 435 point out of a possible 500 losing 20 in time lost for a winning final score of 415 just 4 points ahead of M40 Alistair Powell on 411 with 3rd place going to M60 rider Ian Cartwright on 398 after penalty points were deducted.
4th place overall went to e.bike rider Michael Rackham on 375 points after deductions who all rode clockwise.
The event saw 4 newbies taking part who all enjoyed themselves and the fantastic countryside. The tracks and trails had dried out nicely from heavy rain the previous weekend and a few light showers the night before. No checkpoint boxes went missing although a few riders did struggle to find 1 location and points were awarded accordingly.
Well done to all who took part and the clubs helpers whom without the event couldn't take place.
