The Marlborough Downs offer some great terrain for an Mtbo score event. There are lots of byways and bridleways and very few roads. There are also very few suitable start venues so a very good job by Paul finding the hall at Winterbourne Monkton. I went and checked it out along with the tracks on the flat ground and decided that there was just about enough parking available so the event was on. Checking the rest of the tracks was a real pleasure. The only bad ones sadly were those directly above the hall which were very overgrown. This led to a few comments at the end with people being up on the ridge around 17 and realising that they were further from the finish than they thought.

Although there is lots of off-road riding in reality none of it would be considered very technical, so I encouraged out a few newcomers from BOK all of them seemed to enjoy the experience.

Our Welsh newcomers Nerys and Lowri that were the attention of the filming for an S4C show also seemed to of enjoyed the experience even though they lost all their points and came back after the heaviest rain of the day. I think there upcoming coaching session from Sion is still needed as there is quite a bit to this navigation thing as we all know. They are training to do the Itera adventure race in Scotland which is the second week of August and will take the leading teams something like 4 days none stop.

Next BOK event is on October the 26th. It will be in the terrain south of Bristol in and around the airport.
