Event Report
Saturday's event was planned by Tom Gibbs who used all his local knowledge to find the best trails for you to ride on. For better or worse, depending on your point of view, he found a few too many meaning that there was never any chance of getting even close to a clearance. Rain on the Friday had left a few of the limestone trails a bit slippery, but all came back safe and sound. Apart from a few encounters with brambles that is!
Fortunately you were all back before the massive convoy of motorbikes celebrating Dave Day came through. I think getting you out of bed a little earlier than usual was worth it it to make sure you could cross the A590!
You can read Tom's feedback below.
Planner's report
Hope everyone enjoyed the course. I tried to give lots of options and make everyone have to decide what to do and what not to do whilst showing off the variety of the area.
Whilst putting the controls out Friday I did a lot of cutting back (yes really!) though in hindsight I should of made the approach to CP1 from the south out of bounds. I hope people didn’t get too scratched up.
Rain made the trails a bit damper than I hoped. It was wetter and slippier on Friday !
Collecting them in Saturday afternoon was considerably drier and quicker.
If you wanted to ride some of the area then I’d recommend April/May after a dry spell to see it at its best.
Tom.
Apologies for the clarity of the map. Despite a 20% enlargement of the standard 1:50 map a few of the details were hard to read on the move. Hindsight being a wonderful thing, we could have made the area a bit smaller so that it could have been enlarged a bit more. Some clubs highlight the trail in purple but I was afraid that the intricacy of the map in some areas would have been obscured if I had done that.
Any thoughts you have on this would be welcome.
A big well done to all and thank you for coming along. Andy Conn, Mike Hayward and Angela Brand-Barker were the main category winners but all results can be seen on the button below.
This was the second of the 2026 series and remember that it is your best 5 events that count in the series. As well as the Lakes MBO league this event also scored you points in the National League and in the Team Shield event. It was great to see a number of riders making long journeys to take part.
Next up is an event from Ravenstonedale on 23rd August planned by Tony & Angela Brand-Barker. The event will have little tarmac but plenty of open fell with stunning views if the weather is good.
The remaining fixtures are detailed on the Bmbo calendar
