Event Report
I hope that you enjoyed your run around in the sun. We are hoping that after last the event our reputation for fine weather has been restored!
It was fantastic to see a large number of new riders sampling Bike orienteering for the first time. We hope that you enjoyed the experience and would love to see you all again at the next events.
This event started at the new Driftwood cafe in Allonby and we were made very welcome by Chris and his team, who were sweltering in a hot kitchen in this scorching weather to keep a supply of chips, pizzas and salad flowing. Many thanks to them all.
There was a cluster of controls within easy reach for most riders but there were also a number of very tempting loops for riders wanting a big score. A number of you didn't realise just how committing some of those loops were and misjudged the time. In some cases a very big misjudgement..0pts!
A fair few nettle stings and scratches were reported. Just think of the poor organisers who had to go in with 'machetes' to clear a way to some of the posts. Number 25 was totally invisible when we arrived. Planning the courses in the spring before the vegetation grew seemed so simple!
Hopefully the silage making activities didn't cause you too many scary moments!
No one cleared up tonight, as expected, but top score went to Alan Hartley who managed all except the very southern loop through Hayton. Well done!
The full results can be found by clicking on the link below. For those new to the ABC it is just your best three events in the series that contribute to your score in the league and put you in with a chance of winning a Palace Cycles gift voucher.
The next event is a Watchtree Nature Reserve near Wigton on 3rd June. A little bit different to the norm. More details will follow.
A reminder that the closing date for entries is 1st June at midnight. We had 10 late entries for this event and were relying on cancellations to have enough maps on the night. That was despite printing some spares. Please get your entries in early.
