Event Report
The highest event start point for the second of this year’s Lakeland Lanequests, sponsored by Wheelbase of Staveley, from The Greyhound Hotel, Shap ensured that the event started on a high. Mike and Rachel Toyn, the organisers, ensured that the event continued at top level, with a careful scattering of the controls from Shap going as far east as Crosby Ravensworth and north to King’s Meaburn. The controls were positioned among the lattice of lanes to give numerous route options and meant much careful thought was needed by the 130 riders who took part to try to ensure an efficient route choice to visit as many of the 30 controls within the 2 hour time limit. //

//David Hollingham (Endmoor) in the Solo Men was the only rider who was successful to visit all the controls within the time to score 300 points to win from Ray Morriss (Windermere) 290, and David Heffernan (Ulverston) who visited all 30 controls but incurred time penalties to score 285, and David Switzer 284. The Solo Women saw Anne Plant, (from Pennington near Ulverston) in her usual position, winning with 270 points, from Jo Cleary and Stephenie Jones both with 250, and Jenny Stuart 240. Bryony Halcrow the 2010 Junior Champion continued to ride well with a score of 242 followed by Peter Thompson 210. The Generation Pairs class saw a repeat of last week’s result with a win for Matt and Katie Woods on 250 points from Stuart Walker and Parris Huitson 234, and third Jack Smith and James Smith 220. The Adults pairs / 3’s saw Mike Brooks and Andy Beck win again with 268 from Andrew and Sarah Crozier 262, followed by Graham Clark and Martin Spetch 236.//
