Event Report
Martin Edwards had planned an excellent course so it was disappointing to only have 44 riders. The event just managed to break even but we need to encourage more riders to take part in NEMBOS events. Any ideas would be appreciated. Fortunately, we didn’t have to pay any access fees as the landowners were happy that we had hired the local village hall which made a great event centre – especially as it is attached to the licensed club!! Martin had again managed to gain permission to use miles of private estate tracks so there was plenty of route choice. The weather was cold but mainly dry with only occasional flurries of hail so all riders enjoyed the open moorland tracks as well as the bridleways in Slaley Forest. Thanks to Jens for another excellent map, Karen and John for making everything run smoothly and the Edwards Family and friends who collected all the controls while you were on your way home. //
//I enjoyed my ride as always and chose to ride all of the private tracks in a clockwise direction before returning through Slaley Forest. Congratulations to the category winners especially Andy Conn again for clearing all but one of the 30 controls in just over 4 hours; Graeme Fielding scored 475 to win M50; Kris Smith won M21 with 470 points; Ray Morris beat John Dixon by 10 points in M60; Karen Blackburn was the leading female rider outscoring the leading mixed team of Andrea Foster and Geoff Moorhouse by 20 points.//
//Please remember that we only had permission to ride the private tracks last Saturday and they are closed to mountain bikers for the rest of the year. However, we may come back to Blanchland in July next year.//
//A pair of gloves was found on the course so please let me know if they are yours and collect them at the next event.//
//I hope more of you will make it to Grassholme for the second NEMBOS event of the season next month. It’s another rarely visited but beautiful area.//
//It’s busy next month with 4 events in a week!!//
//Saturday 12th May Keldy Cabins, Pickering Forest//
//Andrew Windrum has planned a Medium MBO event in the morning as part of the BMBO National League using Dave Evans’ controls for the NYMBO 3 hour Score event in the afternoon. You can ride in both but if you ride in the morning you have to enter non-competitively in the afternoon.//
//Wednesday 16th May George & Dragon, Hudswell, Richmond//
//2 hour NYMBO Summer evening Score event around Swaledale//
//Saturday 19th May Grassholme Reservoir, Teesdale//
//4 hour NEMBOS league event – same area as last year but all new control sites and even more private estate tracks to ride//
//Hope to see you at one or all of them.//
//Steve Willis//
//PS Our apartment in Samoens is still available for a few weeks in the summer and the chairlifts are open to mountain bikes in July and August!! //
