Event Report
Saturday started a little wet…NO it started very wet, Team Oa were at discussing the days plans over a nice hot coffee at the New Delight (event centre for the weekend) we were all ready to start putting out checkpoints when the heavens opened up to dump some of the worst rain this area could remember for a very long time, within 15 min the event centre was flooding the road had become a river and our lovely spot on the campsite was 12 inch deep in super sticky mud! //
//Luckily the rains left just as quick as they arrived but unfortunately they left behind a lot of destruction, many of what had been good solid tracks and trails were now heavily rutted washed away and quite un-rideable in places, many of the roads we had planned to use were also impassable with mountain rescue teams hard at work pulling stranded vehicles out of some of the newly formed rivers!//
//Our chat soon turned to the possibility of having to cancel the event due to the conditions, as quickly as we had started discussing cancelation the flooding subsided…so out we went bags full of checkpoints and master maps in hand.//
//Sunday 8:45, our first competitors started to arrive, Ronika Cunningham and Jill Greenfield, both experiencing there first MBO style event, closely followed by the rest, we were not expecting a big turn out this weekend due to a few competitors away in Hungary fighting for GB honour (A big congratulations to all of you, just wondering if Killian Lomas will gain another gold with us at Saddleworth!) Everyone had started by 10:45 with the first arriving back a little before 12:30 and everyone else safely back, downloaded and smiling by 13:45. //
//Results! First place goes to Charly Boyce with 245 points (with 5 penalties) closely followed by Richard Henderson with 240 points and no penalties, we had one team who managed to finish with no points and an impressive time of 4:24 either they were really enjoying the area or need a little help with map reading! Congratulations to you all and hope to see you at Saddleworth on 16/09/2012 for the final part of the Summer Trail series.//
//P.S unfortunately we have had two checkpoints, markers and flags stolen sometime between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning when our first competitors got to where they should have been, this has been reported to the local police who are now making enquiries!//
