Event Report
The event, the second in the series, was once again blessed with wall to wall sunshine. Registration was set up outside the Mill Inn, who kindly agreed to host our event, so that we could top up our tans whilst you all did the hard work. //
//The start was positioned right in the middle of the map giving the riders the dilemma of east or west first. With all controls worth 10 points was it was a case judging the ‘easiest area’. Despite being only a couple of miles from the coast riders were surprised at the amount of climbing needed to get a good score. A number of riders were going for the ‘clean sweep’ but it was not to be. Phil Davies, riding on his own this week, came closest with 19 of the 20 controls. Would having his partner, Chris Hope, with him have helped or hindered him? //
//Katie Lukas beat the winners of the first event, Helen & Kath, to take the first female honours. In the mixed class Roger Jackson & Margaret Mackenzie scored 140points and moved into first place in the league.//
//Winner of the junior class last time, Katrina Hemingway, decided to team up with Dad, Peter, for this event and take first place in the Generation class. Whilst Ellis Hanson and Heather Wornham, who are both normally seen running with map and compass in hand, teamed up and took the junior class.//
//Once again 50 riders turned out and enjoyed the summer conditions. The Mill Inn provided a good food, drink and a focal point for all of those ‘if only’ tales after the event. //
//Our apologies to those who were confused by our placement of #9. Hopefully it did not cost you too much time. What surprised us more was the number of riders who hadn’t noticed it was nearly a kilometre out of position!!!!!//
//The next event will take place from Cockermouth and is hosted by 4play Cycles in the market place. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee the sunny weather that we have had for the last two events. Our luck must run out soon. There will be refreshments available in the shop afterwards or for those who feel the need for something a bit stronger the Castle Bar is opposite.//
//We hope to see you there…….bring a friend!//
