Event Report
After the flat lands of Mawbray this area proved quite a shock for riders. Starting at the Dog & Partridge in Sandwith meant that whichever way you went at the start it was steep downhill. That of course meant that it was steep uphill to finish. The large number of riders with penalty points for going over time tells the story!
Widely publicised as the hottest day of the year so far, 28.5C was noted, it was a mixed blessing that the evening provided a rain storm to cool the riders down. Fortunately the thunder and lightening forecast did not arrive until later. There were spectacular lightening scenes over the Isle of Man as I collected in the controls.
Overall the scores were down on previous events which reflected the hilly terrain but Richard Wren defied gravity to record a 34 point lead, missing only one control in the process. Kate Charles made her comeback with a very impressive 197 to take second place overall.
The next event moves back in land to Uldale in the Northern Fells. Starts will be at Mae's Tea room who are opening especially for us. The league Prize giving will take place after the event so if you have not recorded your 3 scores yet you only have one chance left. With over 30 prizes available you never know, it might be you.
