Event Report
Riders arriving for the Keswick Mountain Festival MBO were greeted with blustery but dry conditions and fairly dry, fast trails (assuming you kept the wind at your back….). The map was a big one, 1:40000 and A3, but the lakes and high mountains make a lot of it non-usable for MBO. There were four clusters of controls, hopefully giving a flavour of the varied and excellent riding around England’s self-styled ‘Outdoor Capital’.//
//It was great to see a good number of first-time MBOers, all of whom returned smiling and will hopefully have a go at a few more MBO events in the future. Of note were Jeff manning and Sebastian Zoledziejewski who sounded to have enjoyed a real adventure around Lonscale Fell and Threlkeld, with Jeff taking a spill and seeing his bike disappear right down the fell into the river! A broken gear cable was soon fixed with the spares he was carrying (how many of us regulars are so well-equipped?) and the made it back with seconds to spare before losing all their points – Well Done!//
//Jeremy and Isaac Noble in the Generation scored 220 (60% of the winning score) which was impressive enough for a first effort even before learning that Jeremy had ridden the 75 mile sportive on Saturday and 15 yr old Isaac had come 7th in his first ever triathlon.//
//David and Miriam Rosen seem not to be slowly down, scoring 200 as a Mixed 60 pair, and David Lawrence, travelled up from the Peak District to score 300 as the quickest M21.//
//Best ride of the day was Ant Lomas who headed anticlockwise to pretty much clear ST Johns in the Vale and Lonscale Fell, before a quick raid into Whinlatter, finishing with 361 (370-9). See the pink route on the map image.//
//Close on his tyre was Bruce Dinsmore who headed the opposite way, into Whinlatter first, then Newlands and Cat Bells, finishing with a quick blast up Latrigg and back along the railway for 343 (350-7)* Orange route on the map image//
//Locals Ray Morris, Kevin Hodgson and Duncan Stuart also scored 300+ (minus some penalties in some cases). Ray raced in Yorkshire on Saturday too – who says that you slow down after 40….50…..60?//
//Well done all and thanks from me to Tony Brand Barker for making the timing work so well and collecting checkpoints and to the team at Keswick Mountain Festival for hosting us.//

//• Bruce has some issues with his ‘dibber’ not registering – Bruce, if you chose to ride past 106 and 104 with dibbing that’s fine, if not please contact westcoastmtb@gmail.com//
