Event Report
Rosthwaite in Borrowdale was the base for the first West Coast MTB night event of the year - chosen to give a change from Keswick. In hindsight, it's not a great venue for a night event as many of the bridleways at that end of the valley are very rocky, and challenging when wet (and dark!).//
//However, the challenge was the same for all and happily everyone arrived back safely (albeit with an odd bruise or three).//
//Who dares wins and Alastair Silver and Ade Gidney (M50) achieved the highest score of the night (267) by committing to a large circuit of the lake, picking off controls efficiently and avoiding the roughest trails. Kevin Hodgson (M40) and Julian Cooper (M50) duelled for second place on the night, both scoring 210 after losing 20 and 30 points respectively for going over time. It was good to see some younger, fresher faces out and Carl Bell rode well to collect 160 points, and would have had more, but a snapped chain slowed him right down and he ended up losing all his points. This gave Matthew Walker the highest score in M21, with 140 points. Two Generation teams had differing success, with Chris and Wil Jones coming in early with 50 points after Wil had taken a few spills on the rocks. Connor Campbell beat Da, Graeme up Honister, only for Graeme to get them a bit lost. they scored 100, but sadly lost 40 for lateness.//
//Thanks to Roger Jackson for some interesting observations on these events and how to attract new riders.//
//Well competed all and see you in Gosforth on Jan 18th? Next night event is Jan 28th in Lorton.
