Event Report
Event Report
Well done to all those who took part in Round Two of this year’s Black Mountain MBO League.
Thankfully due to the couple of weeks of dry weather we’d had previous, Saturdays night’s deluge in the Usk Valley didn’t affect conditions too much. With the exception of a few sections that will never dry even if the Sun landed on Gilwern Hill most trails were running well.
The event area provided a unique mix of terrain with natural grassy hillside on the Sugar Loaf in the North to a maze of lanes, tracks and former trams lines left over from the Blorenge’s industrial heritage in the South. The latter adding to the normal route navigation difficulties when out on the course under time pressure and the splits show plenty of route options where undertaken.
Congratulations to the overall winner, local boy Mark Morgan (M40) 420 pts and the runner up Ifor Powell (M40) 400 and also to Nick Dallimore (M60) in 3rd with 370 pts out of a total 500 pts on offer.
Well-done also to all the other category winners:
Ieuan Best (Y18), Gary Davies (M21), Mike Manning (M50), Steph Best (W40), Nicky Griffin (W50), Caroline Dallimore (W60), also to Rhuben and Joseph Fuest on their first trip out.
The other Splits are on the results page.
Thank you for supporting our chosen charities - Tumble up for Life in aid of Cancer Research UK and Tom Lovejoy’s Everesting the Blorenge (23 Cycle Ascents in 3 Days) in aid of GlobalGiving supporting earthquake recovery and relief efforts in Nepal; both have receive £73.50 each collected on the day.
I would also like to thank the team of helpers for their invaluable support getting the event off the ground and the grand refreshments afterwards.
