Event Report
Black Mountain MBO Series 6 – 4th October 2015
Well done to all those who took part the last Mountain Bike Orienteering event to count in the 2015 Black Mountains MBO Score League.
The weather couldn’t have been kinder, especially when you consider the driving rain we had the last time we visited back at the end of March. The pleasant conditions and dry trails made this one of the best events of the season and a fitting end. I will mention at this point a vote of thanks to Buckland Hall, Griphonn Quarries and Alun Griffiths Contractors for allowing us to use their land where normal MTB PRoW do not exist. The inclusion of these tracks really added to the enjoyment and variety of route riders could use.
Despite the clashes with other events we had a great turn out and it was brilliant to see all the new faces and judging by the atmosphere in the hall afterwards everyone really enjoyed it. The overall winner was Gary Davies (M21) a very impressive 421 pts from a total of 500 on offer. Agonisingly close behind was Andy Hilder (M40) with 420 pts, both riders get 100 league points) In equal third not far behind were Mark Morgan (M40) & Nick Dallimore (M60) with 410 pts each. First female was Sophie Brown (W21) on her first trip out with 260pts. The remaining scores are on the main results sheet.
The 2015 League has now finished and we are in the process of checking the results as its very, very close. The final standings will be sent out with the next Newsletter and will also be displayed on the club website www.blackmountainsguiding.co.uk (MTB Orienteering) in a few days.
Series Prize Giving will take place on Sunday 8th November after the Gilwern Event. Everyone who has ridden 3 or more events will receive a 2015 BM MBO Medal (2 events plus prize giving event will also count). Trophies will be awarded to the overall winner and 2 runners up. We will also award individual category winners, and if more than 5 qualifiers in a class the runner up will also receive a trophy. There will also be a trophy for the King of the Black Mountains for the rider who amassed the most points this season.
The event will also be the first Event of the 2016 National League.
As normal with all our events we have organised in the past, we lay on free refreshments at the end of the event and all we ask for a small donation for out chosen charity. Following Sunday’s event we raised just over £100 for Central Beacon Mountain Rescue Team. Thank you.
I would also like to thank the team of helpers for their invaluable support getting the event off the ground and the grand refreshments afterwards.
Thank you all and hope to see you at the next one
