Event Report
Planning an event so close to home is sooo different to planning one miles away, instead of having to put whole days aside to check things out, you can pop out when you have a spare hour or so. Knowing the area so well means you can almost plan the entire course without even going out!!!//
//The main decision we had to make was where to run the event from. Bullers Hill main car park would have meant running the event from the car/ tent, with riders having to pay the £4 parking fee and no where for refreshments (other than the busy cafe). The Coffee shop we used for the night event wouldn't have been big enough, and another venue on the hill fell through, so the decision was made to run the event from Ashcombe social club. //
//I don't think there was anyone who didn't have a witty comment about the large climb out of the valley from the event centre, but then what goes up has to come down!!!!//
//With the sun shining on this fine October morning, the first of the riders set off up the hill, some heading straight up the hill directly into the forest, others heading for the forest via the long ridgeway green lane, with a few opting for the long slog South for the 50 pointer at the foot of the map.//
//As the tracks were running very fast, I extended the competition area south (to include the 50 pointer) the prevent anyone clearing the course. As it happened no one would have cleared the course, Sods law really!!!//
//By 1330 all the riders were safely back and accounted for, and it was time to announce both the On-the-day winners, and the overall League winners. Trophies went to Ifor Powell, Michael Smith & Ron Barrett, for 1st, 2nd & 3rd respectively for the event, and for the overall League, Ian Cartwright scraped 1st place after Ifor Powell clawed back 500pts on the day to finish just over 100pts short of Ian's 6522 pts winning score!! 3rd place went to Mike Wimpenny. In the Pairs, Mark Pollard & Martin Walbank lead the way right from the first event, Janet Burroughes & Matt Jepson took 2nd place, with Stuart Ball & Tim Redman taking 3rd.//
//With all the trophies presented there was just time for a few beers before we started to collect in CPs. Being so local meant we could split this over two days, and have an early event night for a change!!!//
//With everything now in and all sorted, we can how sit back and relax for a month or so, before we have to start applying for licences for next season!!!!//
//Thanks for all the support you have given us this year, I hope you've all enjoyed the events as much as we have putting them on, and hope to see you all again next year......//
