Event Report
West coast Event 4 Torver 20/3/16
Event 4 of the West Coast season was in jeopardy with only two entrants on Tuesday night, but a quick reminder and a good forecast saw 20 entrants turn up on the day.
Conditions on the trails were excellent, and the sun shone for most of the day, a very pleasant change from mud, running water and unrideable climbs of my reccy runs.
Lots of route choice and no preferred route being obvious from the post ride discussions.
Pete Strong had the best ride of the day with an impressive 500, but 10 mins late after gambling on a last minute 30 pointer, so net 480. He was the only entrant in the M 50 class, think he must have frightened all the others off.
2nd on the day and winner of the most contested class of the day was M 60 Ray Morris (who had done a TQ in rain and cloud in Yorkshire the day before) with 440. 2nd V 60 was Mick Hargreaves with 350, 3rd was Phil Morgan with 340 .
3rd on the day was W 50 Jo Cleary with a very impressive 450 but 20 penalties gave her net 430.
4th on the day was mixed pair Helen Jackson and Paul Vousden with 420,
5th on day was Lucy Spain, with a 420, but 5 mins late so she had a net 415.
Apologies for the bridge out of use on the lake shore, and the only other reported incident was someone falling in the stream while trying to get clipped in, but still managed a net 430!
Thanks to everyone who turned out, traveling from Keswick, Whitehaven, Kendal and Leeds! (That was the Williams family who were on holiday, and saw the event on BMBO web site and came and gave it a go and enjoyed it!). Positive feedback from the entrants at the end of the event on the course, map quality and checkpoint locations were welcome and makes it all worthwhile! Thanks to everyone who rode on Sunday. The Church house Pub was a good event centre and they made us welcome, even though they didn’t quite know what to expect.
