Event Report
Haddon Hill - 2nd July 2017
Thank you all for coming along to the second event Tim and I have organised, we hope you all enjoyed riding a new area to the club.
The Huntsham area is a place we knew well many years ago from a previous hobby (4X4 off-roading) and the routes to the lake at the north made a very nice area map.
Setting out was a much stressed-out affair as we were both working on Saturday morning, so we had to compact setting out into the afternoon/evening. Tim’s driving skills were rather tested as we were losing light. We decided to drive the last couple of controls as the lanes were permissible to vehicles - I think we spent more time setting out that control than any other trying to get Tim’s rather large truck out of a very tight and washed out lane!
On the morning of the event we were up early and I went to the hall to meet Faye to help set up and Tim went to put out the last two controls.
Soon the competitors started arriving and what I thought was a very big car park filled up fast. It wasn’t long before everyone started departing and were faced with the choice of whether to head south towards Huntsham or north towards Wimbleball Lake.
We had a couple of hours to enjoy the sun and relax before competitors started returning. Everyone seemed to enjoy to course and started telling tales of their adventures. Most commented on how tricky the climbs and descents were out of Bury - I walked them the day before so I can vouch for that!
Everyone settled down for coffee and cake and exchange of tales from the course. Many thanks to my better half Fay for kindly making the cakes and for all of your generous donations. We made a total of £38.15 split between our chosen charities: Devon Air Ambulance & Cheriton Fitzpaine Pre-School.
Prizes were as follows:
Overall
1st - Ian Cartwright
2nd- Ifor Powell
3rd - Sion James.

Special mention from me to Daniel and Holly who rolled up for their first go at one of these events. Even though they were an hour late in, they both came back having thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were troopers helping clear up the hall!
The course came in a lot easier than it went out. Big thanks to Jim Williams for helping collect controls. Hope to see you all at the next event. I’m looking forward to being back in the saddle for that one!
