Event Report
With this long hot summer continuing it was always going to be a scorcher tonight. The evening light was crystal clear giving stunning views over the fells as we collected the controls in. Hopefully you were not so focused that you missed the treat.
The area used was a familiar area to many but, whereas we normally attack it from the Cockermouth side, we decided that the Wild Duck at Branthwaite would give you a different perspective on it. It is a deceptively hilly area which was commented on by a number of riders, but hopefully by changing the venue the slower riders were able to experience the delights that only the fast riders have sampled in the past.
Apologies if anyone missed out on the excellent food served by the Wild Duck but they were having a disaster in the kitchens and had to close down early to get it all fixed. As we left the landlord was busy widening the doorway to get the new cooker in! many thanks to Steve and his team for making us welcome.
Finally congratulations to all for your rides but special mention goes to Charlie Rennie who pushed his dad into going for those few extra controls which gave them the second highest score of the night. A very fine effort when more experienced riders faltered.
Well done to Alan Hartley who secured the overall Champions spot with his third win in the series and also to Fiona Wright who now has an unassailable lead in the Women's class.
The next event returns to one of our favourite locations. Once again Mae's tea Rooms at Uldale is host for the final of the series. Hopefully if this fabulous weather holds we will hold the prize presentation on the terrace with Skiddaw as backdrop. What could be a better way to end the series?
